6:19am - just before sunrise [7am] at West Quoddy Head in Lubec, ME the Easternmost point in the US. It's -8 degrees and the wind chill is pushing it somewhere in the -20 region. can't.feel.fingers.

6:22am - the winds are blowing so hard my tripod won't stay upright for the 30sec exposures that I need.

6:40am - West Quoddy Head Light. 8 people that drove up from Virginia come running out of their car, stand next to the fence. One of them yells, 'Holy shitcakes it's freezing out here.' They last about 4 minutes and then return to their car to watch the sunrise.

6:41am - the low flying clouds are hovering over Canada and doing a little dance with the formations rising off the water.

6:54am - sunriseish. It was overcast so there was no clear break of the sun but it was so majestic to be standing there when it happened.

7:26am - the town of Lubec is small and shutdown for the winter. The lonely boats hold on as the winds try to free them from their confines.

7:26am - gaol.

7:34am - sun has been up for 34 minutes [technically] and though the waters begin to clear, the ice isn't going anywhere.

7:41am - closed for the season.

7:45am - closed for many seasons.

8:50am - I decided to get in the car and drive down the Maine coast and watch this new year unfold in all its splendor.

8:53am - the overcast is burning off and revealing a stunning, albeit single digit degree, day.

9:52am - it was closed. Apparently the Maine Sardine Museum does not do business on New Year's Day. That's just bad business if you ask me.

10:03am - Beals Island.

10:12am - fish out of water.

10:28am - came across Wild Blueberry Land. I can only imagine what's inside.

10:29am - rt. 1's wicked good, dontchaknow.

1:21pm - after a brief lunch in Bar Harbor, played around in Acadia National Park for a little while.

2:43pm - Seal Cove

4:00pm - successfully captured an image while driving using my 45mm-TS manual focus lens. Didn't die. Day deemed a success.
